The Healing Vibes
Moving to Thailand from a hustling city like Hong Kong is a major adjustment for everyone. I had only ever been here on holidays, when I was naturally relaxed and chilled. However, when I realised that I was going to be here for good, I had a hard time settling. I felt restless, even stressed by how chilled my new habitat was. I was constantly checking what I had achieved on a daily basis. Then I had to adjust the pace of life here. In Hong Kong, efficiency is expected— time is money. Here, I wanted to get things done, and get them done now. But when it wasn’t me doing things, it took a while for them to get done. And that drove me nuts.
Soon I learnt that I had to slow down, not only for a bit, but let things happen when they do. It was easier said than done. Luckily, there are so many mindfulness and healing options in Thailand. I soon found myself spiritually connected at a much deeper level. I began to love going to temples, which are common things to see in Thailand. I am not a religious person but could not help but falling in love with the energy at every temple. It’s a beautiful combination of peacefulness and dedication. The aroma of incense soothes me, the sounds of monks chanting and praying in Thai inspires me (even though I can’t understand what they’re saying), and the sight of the magnificent statues stimulates my senses while simultaneously calming my edgy need to do things.
The healing sessions I’m about to describe are all English speaking, done by foreigners living in Thailand. The obvious reason is, of course, my limited comprehension of the Thai language.
Disclaimer: all these healing sessions are based on my personal experience and not supposed to substitute any medical treatments.
Therapeutic Sound Bath at Life Balance
“The medicine of the future will be frequency medicine”. – Albert Einstein
Our body is composed of up to 70% of water, and 90% of our brain is water molecules. When vibrations go through water, they rearrange its structure. Masaru Emoto’s famous experiment with water molecules demonstrate how water molecular are affected by external environment. This is why sound healing is so effective on relaxing and balancing us on the molecular level.
Life Balance is one of the most beautiful yoga and healing studios I have visited in Thailand. It is situated by a beautiful lake with ceiling to floor windows, and a 270 degree open view. Its openness to the nature is an immediate heart opener and makes it very easy to connect with nature. Life Balance is a place where one can well spend a full day retreat. There is even a well-equipped fitness studio. The rest of the menu would surely be the envy of even the best spa in Thailand: Yoga, meditation, sound baths, and e-foil on the lake! And after all these activities, how about a massage to take your relaxation to the next level? Of course, we all feel hungry after a wonderful massage, well, Woo Phuket right next door serves yummy healthy food, where your body and soul get fed and you won’t feel all your hard work has gone to waste. All of this combined makes Life Balance one of the most unique things to do in Thailand while at the same time enriching and rejuvenating your soul.
I have a private sound bath session with Jerome every two weeks. Jerome is a certified Peter Hess sound healing practitioner. According to Jerome, Peter Hess is an engineer from Germany who studied Physical Technology and dedicated his life to research the effects of sound on people. His travels to Nepal and Tibet inspired him to start working with different metal singing bowls. The resulted Peter Hess Sound-Massage has a therapeutic effect on the cellular level, benefiting our blood circulation, raising vibrations of our chakra, soothing our nervous system, and stimulating the pineal glands, where our third eye is.
I find each of the sessions very relaxing. Having the Tibetan bowl placed on the soles of my feet, my back, my solar plexus, and my palms are some of the most wonderful bodily sensations. I can often still feel the vibrations traveling within my body hours after the session. I feel invigorated, energised, and inspired after every single session. I truly understand and love the explanation by Jerome that “sound healing is actually the induction to self-healing.” The sound and vibrations help our bodies to totally relax and get into the zero-resistance state. It also allows us to release the emotions deeply buried and manifested in the forms of aches and pains in our physical bodies.
Massage Legs Using Tibetan Bowls
After a few sound healing sessions at Life Balance, Jerome asked me if I would like to try sound bath on my legs. He recommended it for good circulations on my both legs. Who wouldn’t want that? Oh, my word! That session was surreal! Jerome placed various Tibetan bowls, either on my legs or near them. Before the vibrations of one were over, another one began! I had never experienced anything quite like that. The vibrations actually “massages” my muscles and something deeper inside again and again. I felt extremely relaxed as the weight within them gradually melted away. Throughout the day I could still feel the tingling sensations and needless to say, my legs were so light that it felt like I could float! If I had to list the top 10 things to do in Thailand, this treatment with Jerome would certainly be one of them.
Tempted to try a session? There are Chakra Awareness Meditation and Sound Bath group sessions held regularly at Life Balance. Private sessions are also available at the cost of 2,500 THB (at time of writing, 1 USD is trading at 35.05 baht). Check out their program at www.lifebalancephuket.com
Shamanic Sound Healing with Lu Lu Golden
Despite the wonderful experience I had, I felt the therapeutic healing was not enough for me. It would have been perfect for a city setting. However, here I yearn for a stronger spiritual connection and diving deeper into my subconscious mind.
I had the best of luck and pleasure to have enjoyed four months of shamanic sound healing with Lu Lu, originally from Dali, China, and a long-time resident of Koh Phangnga. It is not common at all to find sound healers who can do shamanic sound healing. Lu Lu has been trained in both Tibetan bowls, crystal bowls, and a number of other sound healing instruments. On top of that, she has one of the most enchanting voices. She chanted and sang Sanskrit to us in every session. Together with the vibrations and melodic frequencies she played with each instrument, I had been transported to different realms and had the most wonderful but surreal spiritual encounters.
When asked how she became a shamanic sound healer, Lulu said: “Around 7 years ago, I found a book at a Taoist temple about healing with sound. I learnt that sound healing has been used in Chinese medicine for a very long time. Musicians used music and sound to boost health and wellness for the royalty especially the emperors. That was when I started to take on interest in sound healing and began my spiritual journey to master that skill to help heal others.”
She continued: “I first used mostly Tibetan bowls, helping my clients to relax and rejuvenate. Later on, I realised such treatment were more suited for tourists or clients mainly came from cities, who were primarily looking for relaxation. However, after living in Thailand especially Koh Phangnga, where residents were already in a naturally relaxed environment, they rather looked for deeper connections. That was when I started to take on learning a wider variety of instruments, instruments I collected and learnt while traveling in Tibet, India and Mongolia, to produce cosmic sounds that generate different frequencies that are so powerful that allow such connection with the universe.”
I have to emphasise how powerful shamanic sound healing is. I have witnessed others who were quite new to inner healing experience, shaken, cried and screamed during the healing sessions. Buried emotions such as fears, anxieties, guilts gushed out that could be very confrontational especially for those who were not ready to deal with the past. However, when you are ready to get onto your healing journey, I can assure that was one of the most profound and surreal experiences I had ever had!

“I Release Control, and Surrender to the Flow”
I shall continue with my personal spiritual journey here in Thailand, to take advantage of the abundance of healers and retreat facilities. If you are not in a busy city like Bangkok, the chances are you are in an idyllic environment anywhere else you end up in Thailand. After a while, simply relaxing is no longer what you seek— instead, you seek a deeper connection with yourself and the world. I feel at this point of my life, I am at the right place to seek that depth and I am very grateful to be where I am to experience everything that is on the table.
On a more practical note, group healing sessions in Thailand ranges from 300 baht to 800 baht, a private session starting from 2,500 baht (at time of writing, USD was trading at 34.65 Thai Baht), and it is absolutely complimentary to go to most temples. In another word, there is something for everyone at any budget who is in search for that inner peace and joy.
I every time spent my half an hour to read this blog’s content every day along with
