During my professional years working with luxury brands, I was fortunate enough to learn a lot about silk. Silk is a natural material that brings a sense of delicate touch to our skin while at the same time, allows every colour to bloom into its fullness. Silk makes the perfect canvas for any story to be illustrated in its most vibrant colours.
The products that I encountered were mostly rendered in larger formats— things like scarves, shawls, and garments. So when I first saw La Orr silk earrings, I was taken by surprise and immediately impressed. The amount of silk they used was minimal, but the stories they told and the fashion statements they made were loud.
Little Silk, Big Flare
La Orr defines contemporary beauty by reviving the art of using silk, which is a native ingedient in Thailand women’s clothing that many people in Thailand and beyond are immediately familiar with. Their goal is to bring beauty back to life through the crafting of jewellery relevant to modernity while emphasizing the importance of craftsmanship and wisdom. Their designs convey the joy of a woman and seamlessly combine it with a transcendent Eastern charm.
Bringing Soft Fluidity to Hard Metal
Khun Aom, the brand owner and designer, shared the following:
“La Orr is a short Thai word that is easy to remember and has the meaning of delicacy. We chose to use Thai materials as well, so it’s appropriate for this word for the brand name. Inspiration comes from the beauty of the everyday objects we see around us, such as leaves, flowers, women, and much more. The fairytale stories these objects tell are delivered to us through unique designs that look fun and lively. I studied thailand women’s clothing design and thus I experimented using quality silk from Pak Thong Chai of Sureeporn Shop and continually adapting the modern styles of today.”
The current La Orr product range includes earrings, brooches, necklaces, rings, and ear cuffs. It is delightful to see how that little bit of silk brings the piece to life! Their pieces retail at prices between 690 – 4,890 THB (at time of this article’s creation, the USD was trading at a rate of 1 USD to 35.1 THB). Prices vary based on how difficult the piece is to make. Because it is a detailed work and difficult to control production, work with slight defects or the slightest mistake is lost. Therefore, it takes a lot of expertise and time to make each piece.
La Orr’s best-sellers are, not surprisingly, earrings. They are larger than life, while being silk, are genuinely light. Yet, those light earrings carry much weight in brighten up and transforming our faces the moment we put them on.
Another service of La Orr that customers love is being able to order Customized silk colors. If you struggle to find the right colours for you on their Facebook or Instagram, simply send them your dresses or outfits and let their designers to bespoke something uniquely for you!
Despite having a Thai brand name and using native materials and having nature as its inspiration of creation, La Orr appeals to customers within Thailand and beyond. They would make distinctive souvenirs from Thailand, but I can easily see ladies from all cultural backgrounds and ethnicities rocking La Orr accessories in a variety of occasions. They are effortless ornaments that you can grab and go, even on days you are just wearing a plain shirt and wearing minimal makeup. Let those pieces of art complete your look and bring you compliments throughout the day.
Tips to Help You Care for Your Silk Accessories
If you worry about caring of silk accessories, here are some tips from Khun Aom for all of us:
“Store your La Orr pieces like normal jewelry. After use, use a soft cloth to wipe the metal area and store in the box. It is recommended that the silk part should not be exposed to water. Although it can be slightly affected by moisture due to the thin waterproof coating on the silk fabric. But it’s best to avoid water and humidity.”
