I was very exited to write about a Thai fashion designer for the first time, an actual designer who had worked as a designer for a fashion brand professionally before creating her very own label. Her style was vintage inspired, with a modern and tropical twist, and a flare of classy and sassiness!
My very first question to said designer was, “Who’s your muse?” Coming from luxury brands, consider the shock I had when she answered, “I AM MY OWN MUSE!” I thought to myself: “Oh, I love the confidence and inspiration already!”
From Designer, to Fashion Editor, to Entrepreneur, then Back to Designer
Masiri Tamsakul, gthe designer and brand owner of Again and Again Vintage, shared the following:
“I have been a designer long before I became a Fashion Editor— and now life has taken me back to becoming a designer again. Between 1999 and 2005, I worked for the fashion label Mouung-Doo as a designer. Then from 2005 I worked as a Fashion Editor for Marie Claire Magazine. In 2011, I started my own vintage brand to sell pieces I had collected from all over the world. After 3 to 4 years, I began to design again and create my own collection this time.”
Maybe that’s where the brand name came from? It was indeed of a circle of “Again and Again,” yet with the same fire for fashion— and making Thailand clothes shopping fun again.
Dressing the High-So in Thailand
In addition to her six years’ experience as a fashion editor for Marie Claire Thailand, Masiri is also one of the biggest fashion influencers in the country. With her passion and inspiration for vintage style, Masiri was able to start her own vintage shop “Again&Again”, which quickly became a huge success. After only a short time in business, Again&Again was featured as one of the most recommended shops in Bangkok in Monocle, the Bangkok version of the Louis Vuitton Travel Guidebook, and more. All previous vintage pieces at the shop had been well-selected by Marisa as she traveled all around the world, ensuring that she is able to provide her customers with the best, most unique items. To expand her business, Masiri recently started her own clothing line, focusing on lace, which has become a key part of her signature style. All of her designs create a perfect alchemy of easy-hippy-luxe-chic styles in one look. No wonder the collections received great response from fans and among Thai socialites at its very first launch, and was able to elevate Thailand clothes shopping in general. Masiri not only enjoys creating her own collection but also keep on hunting rare and fabulous vintage pieces all around the world. She also works for many top international fashion magazines and she became one of the most wanted fashion stylists in Bangkok.
“Again&Again started business 15 years ago as a “boutique vintage shop” which was located in the Thonglor area of Bangkok. After 7 to 8 years of selling only vintage clothes— we hand-picked every single item from around the world— we began to create our own designs. Now, after moving our shop from Thonglor area to Suanplern market on Rama4road, we only sell our own designs which are mostly composed of vacation wear. Myself and my angel Jok Tanikarn Sukwatthanasiri are 2 key persons behind the brand. I am the designer and Khun Jok is the Managing Director. We have many regulars from all walks of life, although many of them celebrities like Thai movie stars and also international customers from all over the world, who usually PM me directly on Instagram.”
I loved every single piece I could find on their Instagram @vintage_again_and_again, which, cleverly enough, is sewn on the label of every piece in their collections. I also love the idea of having limited production for every design, making it rare and eco-friendly.
“Our best sellers? It is really hard to say…all our pieces are of limited production, and they are usually sold out! But the more popular designs are print items and Han embroidered items. Our most expensive piece costs 8,900 THB and least expensive item costs 2,180 THB.”
Masiri also designs personalised bags— check out her collections here: @Nametag.bkk
